ANNA BLIGH MP
PREMIER OF QUEENSLAND
I wish the people of Pakistan all the best for
the coming year as you celebrate the conclusion
of the holy month of Ramadan with the Eid
festival, Choti Eid in Urdu.
This year in Ramadan, August 14 in the Western
calendar, Pakistan commemorated its 64th
anniversary as an independent nation. It’s a
special time of year for the people of Pakistan
and for Pakistanis living abroad.
Eid is a three day festival, signifying renewal
following the spiritual renewal that occurs
during Ramadan. That renewal comes from fasting,
from contemplation of the Koran and from giving
to others, especially the disadvantaged.
It’s an observance that’s followed throughout
the world, wherever Muslims are to be found.
That includes Queensland, where people from many
different cultures and faiths live together in
harmony, respecting each other’s traditions and
religions.
I congratulate the nation of Pakistan on
reaching this anniversary and I wish your
country all the best for the years to come.
And, of course, I hope you enjoy the celebration
of Eid.

Earlier, a mercenary
was defined as “one who works only for hire”.
From the Latin word
merces “pay, reward, wages” and “mercenarious”
which is “one who does anything for pay”, the
literary definition is one who is “hired, paid”.
Through history the
term “mercenary” has received a negative
connotation.

CYBER GOVERNANCE:
WHO WILL TAME THE SHREW!
by: J.R. Mahboobi
(published in NETMAG, July-August Issue of 2001)
Since the launching of first node of Arpanet in
1969 and its transformation into Internet in
1980, this 20th-Century miracle never looked
behind. Leaping forward beyond imagination,
10,000 nodes of 1989, turned into 1,000,000
hosts in 1992, and in 93,047,785 in 2000. Who
knows where it’ll land finally! The system built
up initially to provide faster communication
between multi-national researchers, has changed
its facet from governmental research
organization to socio-cultural global village,
and now taking off to transform into global
virtual market.

It is a time that we wake up. We should do
something, to save our next generation, to save
our country and to save our future, which is our
“young generation”. They are the leaders of
tomorrow, if they will be crushed financially,
morally and socially then don't think and dream
of a bright future.

Virtual is

We generally,
consider the Internet like an innocent baby,
like a kid, like an angel or he who is friend of
our kids and young brothers. It is not merely as
simple as looks like.
Let us consider this baby
as a dragon and/or a terrible thing or he who
has its own objectives and values; culture and
religion; life style and thinking pattern. What
if “The Internet is really trained very well”?
